1.Are there any admission interviews?
Places are allocated according to the date the completed application received by the Kindergarten Office on a first come first served basis.
2.Who gets priority in admissions?
Priority of admissions goes to children of YMCAHK staff, siblings of students/graduates of YMCA of Hong Kong schools and children recommended by Toddlers' World (run by the YMCA of Hong Kong Preschool and Primary Leisure & Education Services).
3.Is the kindergarten part of the Free Quality Kindergarten Education scheme?
No, the kindergarten is not under the Free Quality Kindergarten Education scheme.
4.How much are the school fees? Are there other additional fees?
For school year 2019/2020, half day school fees are $6,783 per month ($67,830 per annum, 10 installments) and full day school fees are $11,970 per month ($119,700 per annum, 10 installments) inclusive of meal fee. There may be adjustments in school fees each year, subject to EDB’s approval. School fees include daily snacks and all learning materials. Other fees are optional such as outing/educational visit fees. School uniforms and bags are mandatory. Please refer to the School Uniform page for details.
5.What is the Teacher:Student ratio?
We follow the requirement set out by the Education Bureau of 1:11, although our ratio is usually much more favorable.
6.How many K1 places are available each year?
There will be a maximum of 54 places.
7.What is the medium of instruction?
English is the main medium of instruction. We provide Putonghua lessons twice a week in the half-day classes, and additional Putonghua lessons for full-day classes in the afternoon. There are also Spanish lessons for K2/K3 full day classes.
8.What are the teachers’ qualifications?
We have a team of highly dedicated and experienced early childhood educators. All Class Teachers are registered with the Education Bureau and are qualified teachers in Early Childhood Education who are trained to teach young children using English as the medium of instruction.
9.What are the school hours?
Half day session: 8:45am to 11:45am
Full day session: 8:45am to 4:15pm
10.What kind of primary schools do graduates of the kindergarten usually go to?
In the past, our graduates normally moved onto international schools or English-medium local primary schools in Hong Kong. Since the opening of SWCS YMCA of HK Christian School (www.cs.edu.hk) in 2013, more and more of our graduates opt to continue their education in our primary school.
11.Do K3 children get acceptance automatically into the YMCA primary school?
SWCS YMCA of HK Christian School gives priority in their admissions process to children of the YMCA kindergartens. The children will be invited to apply one year earlier (in K2) and will be observed in their own classrooms during the first term of K2. Those who are found suitable will be offered priority places in Year 1, one year in advance.
12.My child was not born in Hong Kong, what other supporting documents are required to be sent together with the application form?
Documents which will show child’s right of stay in Hong Kong, for example, dependant visas, parent’s work visas etc.
